Star Throwers was lucky enough to be chosen as ‘Charity of the Year’ by Norfolk Constabulary and has already benefitted from a fantastic range of fundraising taking place. Chief Constable Simon Bailey said: “I’m pleased to announce this year’s force charity is going to be Star Throwers. This is a local charity based in Wymondham, which provides support to cancer patients and their families.”
In March the staff at the Contact and Control room raised £371 in memory of their colleague Sarah Parkinson who passed away in 2018. Inspector Jerry Wright organised the ‘in memory’ fundraising and met with charity representative Victoria Pigg and Sarah’s mother Brenda Parkinson to present the cheque at the Contact and Control Room (pictured). In April the charity benefitted from a donated tour of the Norfolk Constabulary Head Office, which was auctioned at our 10thAnniversary Ball making £300, the ball made over £7000 altogether.
The latest fundraising effort comes from Norfolk Police Officer, Louise Bishop who is running the London Marathon for Star Throwers on Saturday 27thApril. Louise said: “I lost my dad and two colleagues to the cancer so I know how important it is for the support and care given to both those suffering and their families.” Louise has already raised over £280 and says: “I’m quite nervous but excited to be doing something for a great cause looking forward to the exhilaration and experience”. We are so grateful for the Norfolk Constabulary for choosing to support Star Throwers this year. Their fundraising efforts have raised nearly £1000 already, which will pay for 32 free cancer information sessions or complementary therapies at our support centre in Wymondham and we can’t wait to work with them raising awareness and funds throughout 2019.
