About Us

Star Throwers is a local cancer support charity based in Wymondham, Norfolk that is dedicated to providing support for people with cancer and their loved ones.

We support people to become well-informed about their cancer and their treatment and provide wellbeing support through our information, lymphoedema support, complementary therapies, groups, nutrition workshops, and counselling.

Our support is available for people with any type of cancer and at all stages of their journey, including post-treatment. Equally importantly, our support services are available for carers, partner or loved ones too.

All of Star Throwers’ support is completely free of charge thanks to our amazing donors and supporters.

History of Star Throwers

Star Throwers was founded in December 2008 by Dr. Henry Mannings to provide help for cancer patients who felt they had nowhere else to go or required advice on further management of their cancer.

Prior to founding Star Throwers Dr Mannings worked on the oncology units at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital and the James Paget Hospital, looking after patients receiving chemotherapy and radiotherapy as well as palliative care.

Despite finding this the most gratifying time of his career, it became clear to him that there was a great need to offer further support for patients and their families in terms of further advice and support. And, thus, Star Throwers was born.

The Star Throwers cancer support centre itself was refurbished by a local community team of volunteers who painted and redecorated the building to make it fit for purpose.

Star Throwers now supports people with any type of cancer and all stages of the journey, from diagnosis to post-treatment support. We are proud to have Dr Mannings as the charity’s founder and will always be grateful to him for setting up Star Throwers and overseeing its growth to where it is today. Dr Mannings retired from his position at Star Throwers in 2018.
