A Generous Donation From The Horning Masonic Lodge

We were delighted to welcome along members from the Horning Masonic Lodge including Brian Dermott and Julian Harrison to show them all the wonderful support services we offer and we were incredibly grateful to receive a donation of £500. This donation is thanks to Neville, who benefits from our services and by chance met one of the members at a campsite last Summer – a special meeting which has meant that Star Throwers received vital funding to allow us to continue to support people affected by cancer. Neville kindly shared his story and how he met Julian Harrison from the Lodge.

“In August 2023 I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Prostate Cancer, I was told it was contained and hadn’t spread. Unfortunately, due to doctors’ strikes and delayed appointments I didn’t have surgery until December, and it had spread to my lymph nodes and 22 were removed. After many appointments I was eventually diagnosed with Lymphoedema with the help of a brilliant Urology Nurse who picked it up and referred me to the West Pottergate Lymphoedema Clinic. There I was provided with compression garments, and it was here I head about Star Throwers – they have been a lifeline for me and without them I don’t know what I would have done as I was struggling to cope.

While on holiday on a campsite in September 2024 we met a lovely gentleman and his wife (Julian Harrison) who we spoke to daily ad he told us he was a member of Horning Masons. I told him about my cancer, and he asked what treatment I was receiving, I also told him about the incredible charity Star Throwers. The next day Julian and his wife came to tell us that they would like to donate £500 to Star Throwers – this was such a kind and thoughtful gesture considering we had only just met. I would like to say a big ‘THANK YOU’ to Julian and his wife. There are no words for the kind caring and compassionate staff, therapists and volunteers at Star throwers who are my rock. Thank you is not a big enough word for the love and support my wife and I receive. When you enter Star Throwers it is like you are receiving a BIG HUG.” Neville
