After a heavy storm, a boy walked along the beach throwing the stranded starfish back into the sea.

A man watching shouted "there are too many of them - it won’t make any difference."

As the boy threw another starfish back into the sea, he smiled and replied "it made a difference to that one!"

Star Throwers - Caring for people affected by Cancer

WYMONDHAM CENTRE FACILITIES

Star Throwers cancer centre is a fully-equipped, single storey building offering a wide range of services and treatments for people affected by cancer.

Lounge and Reception Area

Lounge and Reception Area

As you enter the building, a welcoming lounge with open fire provides a peaceful and quiet waiting area with comfortable sofas and chairs. This room is also used for people who just want to drop in for a cuppa and a chat. Adjoining the lounge, is a reception area where appointments are booked on the computer, telephone calls are taken and general enquiries dealt with.

Teaching/Study/Meeting Room

Teaching/Study/Meeting Room

To the right of the lounge is a large teaching room. Staff training and talks are held here as well as teaching to high school students about the fundamentals of cancer and general awareness of the disease.

Doctors Consulting Room

Doctors Consulting Room

Dr Henry Mannings conducts appointments in this room for our visitors, prior to them accessing the complimentary therapies that we offer. This is to ensure that any therapies to be carried out will not be detrimental to our visitors who may be undergoing any chemotherapy or radiotherapy. He also uses this room for anyone who would like to discuss their current treatment, or has any worries, concerns or questions regarding their diagnosis, treatment and future.

General Office

General Office

A small general office exists for the general day-to-day running of Star Throwers. This room is for staff only.

Therapy Room

Therapy Room

At Star Throwers we offer a wide range of complementary therapies and massages. We have a therapist on the premises every day, but we do ask that you make an appointment if you would like to book a treatment.

The Bedroom

ShowerThe Bedroom

Our bright, cheery bedroom is equipped with a single bed, which has a ripple mattress. This is particularly good for anyone suffering with pressure sores as this inflatable mattress has individual cells, which inflate and deflate alternately. If anyone using the centre feels tired or is unwell during their visit, they are very welcome to use the bedroom. There is an en suite, walk-in shower room, which is available for use by any of our less mobile visitors who may have difficulty at home with bathroom facilities.

Treatment Room

Treatment Room

This room is primarily for medical procedures including dressings or minor medical procedures that may be required by our visitors.

Kitchen/Diner

Kitchen/Diner

Our kitchen/diner has all the facilities we need to be able to offer hot and cold drinks, snacks and simple meals. A large dining table to seat up to 10 people is for use by staff and visitors.

Garden

Garden

Star Throwers has a large garden to the side of the property and visitors are welcome to walk in and enjoy the garden. We are planning an area of decking to the rear of the building, which is a lovely sunny and secluded spot.
